Small Talk Stinks
Small Talk Stinks
I’ve walked past this pole hundreds of times and never seen it. That is, until I started looking. The discipline of regularly posting pictures to Instagram has opened my eyes and now I’m astounded by inspiration all around me. Perhaps I focused on this one because I’m not good at small talk either.
I used this photo as a template for these three quilts, playing with colors and quilting textures. The color combinations were a stretch for me, but as a result I’m getting braver and bolder. It certainly helps to experiment with small quilts before committing to something big.

My quilter mindset is usually focused on cutting up the fabric, but there are times when it’s important to appreciate the whole of the fabric pattern and color. I think of it as honoring the cloth. I enjoyed using the fabric whole, and then quilting to enhance the pattern.

Do you have small talk topics or phrases that work well for you? I’ve been racking my brain for some ideas. Maybe it’s not too late to develop this skill. My list so far is pretty pathetic.
Cute shoes!
Isn’t this weather crazy?
